Flu Vaccine supply

Rockville Centre Pediatrics, LLP

Please call the office to schedule an appointment for these vaccines. Please be patient.  We will do our best to try to accommodate everyone.

We have hired a pediatric trained registered nurse to help us administer these vaccines.  This will reduce waiting time and allow us to be able to provide the vaccine to anyone who wants it.  If your visit is for the immunization only you will see the nurse.  If you prefer to see the doctor for the immunization please specify this when your appointment is made.   If there any additional problems or issues that you want to discuss with a doctor or that you want the doctor to check than the encounter will be considered an office visit and a co-pay will be collected (as contracted between you and your insurance carrier).

H1N1 (Swine) Vaccine

The Nassau County Department of Health is responsible for the allotment and distribution of this vaccine.  We have requested ample supply.  The Department of Health states that there will eventually be enough supply for anyone who wants it and asks for patience during the distribution period.

For everyone’s convenience we are creating a waiting list for the H1N1 (Swine) Vaccine.  Once your child’s name is added to the list it is not necessary to call and ask about its arrival.  When the vaccine does arrive, we will make appointment times available.  We will call the patients on the list first before any other appointments are made.

Nasal Mist –available- finally arrived December 22.  We will start to call people on the list to arrange appointments

The nasal-spray flu vaccine (Flu MIST) -- a vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause the flu (sometimes called LAIV for “Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine”). LAIV is approved for use in healthy people 2 years to 49 years of age who are not pregnant.   This does not contain preservative.  It is not recommended for people with asthma.

0.25 ml preservative free vaccine (ages 6 mo to 35 mo) –unavailable- more is expected.  The Department of Health does not inform us when the next shipment will arrive.  We will start to call people on the list to arrange appointments.  If you would like this vaccine and you are not already on the list please call the office.  The CDC and department of health allows us to use the non-preservative free preparations for children in this age group.  If your child is in this age group and you prefer to get the preservative containing vaccine and not wait than call the office to arrange it.

0.5 ml single dose vials (age 3 to 6) - Available

Multi-dose Vials –Available- additional 400 doses arrived December 22.This vaccine does contain trace amounts of thimerisol preservative.  We will start to call people on the list to arrange appointments.  If you would like this vaccine and you are not already on the list please call the office.

We are attempting to call everyone on the list.  This is a time consuming task.  If you would like to get the H1N1 vaccine you can call and schedule an appointment even if you are already on the list and not called yet.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccine

Seasonal influenza has not been seen yet in this area - it is not too late to receive your vaccine

Since the manufacturers are working on shipping all of the H1N1 (swine) there is a delay in the shipment of the seasonal vaccine.  We have no control of when the manufacturers ship the vaccine to us.  We ordered this seasons vaccine last winter.  Our whole order has been shipped to us.  We appreciate your patience.

            For Patients with Private insurance

We are not making any new appointments for seasonal flu vaccine at this point for patients over three years of age.  However, for everyone’s convenience we are creating a waiting list for the seasonal flu vaccine.  Once your child’s name is added to the list it is not necessary to call and ask about its arrival.  Please call the office if you want to be added to the list.  If you previously had an appointment for the seasonal flu vaccine and were cancelled by us when we ran out of vaccine, you were already added to the top of the list.  When the vaccine does arrive we will make appointment times available.  We will call the patients on the list first before any other appointments are made.

0.25 ml preservative free vaccine (ages 6 mo to 35 mo) - - available

0.5 ml single dose vials (age 3 and up) – available -We will start to call people on the list to arrange appointments.

Multi-dose Vials –available.  Additional 100 doses arrived December 22-We will start to call people on the list to arrange appointments.

Nasal Flu-MIST –unavailable – informed by manufacturer that no more will be produced.  The factory is now only producing H1N1 mist.

We apologize for any inconvenience.  We place our order for the influenza vaccine in February.  For this current season we ordered around 15% more than the previous year.  (Last season we had a few doses that were discarded at the end of the season because they were not used).  Many people that never considered having the influenza vaccine in past years are requesting it this year. We had no way to predict that when we ordered in February.  Additionally, in previous years it was always possible to order additional vaccine from the manufacturers of various suppliers, however this year this is not possible.  We will do our best to administer the vaccine to everyone who is on the list, however due to the increased demand and limited supply we can not guarantee that there will be enough for everyone on the list.

For patients who receive vaccines from NY State (Medicaid, any Child Health Plus plan, uninsured).  Please note that these vaccines are owned by the state and tracked by lot number.  They can not be used by non eligible patients.
